Vistancia Strategy Board Gamers Group

What?

Do you like games that require a bit of thinking and skill? Do you enjoy Monopoly but want something more? We primarily play what are called "Euro Games" that typically meet the following guidelines:

  • Plays between 2 and 5 players
  • Lasts between 30 minutes and 2 hours per game
  • Takes about 5-15 minutes to learn the rules
  • Requires strategy to win (some luck is usually involved as well)
  • Allows for multiple strategies (there is no "one" strategy to win)
  • Keeps all players involved until the end (nobody loses before the end of the game)

Some of the more popular examples of this sort of game are Settlers of Catan, Puerto Rico, and Ticket to Ride. Some examples of popular American games that I consider much less fun than the games we play are: Life, Clue, Sorry, etc.

This is different than role-playing games (RPGs) and war games which tend to be much more complex and take much longer to play. I'm up for these games as well, but it would be outside of the regular strategy board games sessions.

Who?

Anybody willing to learn new games and who enjoys strategy is welcome. No experience required. Ages 16 and older welcome. Couples encouraged.

When?

Primary meeting time is Thursday evenings at 7PM and will end between 10PM and midnight depending on when people leave. You need not stay the entire time. Typically we will play 2-5 games depending on how long we play for and the length of the games and number of people involved. We typically only play each game once in an evening to enhance variety. Other meeting times are possible as well.
